Atomontage
Here comes another engine using the same concept as before with Euclideon called Atomontage.
Here goes their demo recorded with an external cam though since their test PC couldn’t handle rendering and recording at the same time:
Besides the rendering engine itself they are focusing on other fun aspects as well.
While they were developing the graphics engine itself they wrote content generator algorithms to actually fill up their demo levels with something to look at.
They seem to have an interesting giving the ability for future game level designers to have parts of a virtual world modeled automatically like rocks, sand, grass etc, *trivial stuff which isn’t exactly the fun part of designing*. This might give a lot more time for level designers to focus on the parts where they actually want detail and diversity.
This engine also a has a couple more features compared to Euclideon as far as I can tell as in a couple of GPU accelerated post processing effects or actually displacing/removing voxels like tire tracks in realtime etc.
The detail may not be as whopping as in the Euclideon demo tho, but given it time I believe both engines are trying to achieve similar goals.
It’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for these kinds of engines, since they may very well be the next step for photorealistic graphics in games besides raytracing engines.
